AlphaESS Completes Production of 60MW|120MWh Jonava BESS for Lithuania

AlphaESS has completed production of the 60 MW/120 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) for the Jonava project in central Lithuania, with the containers now ready for shipment. The project represents another achievement for AlphaESS's utility-scale battery energy storage deployment in Europe.

UB Solar, the project's general contractor, visited AlphaESS's global headquarters and manufacturing facilities as the project reached this milestone. The teams held an on-site meeting, toured the production lines, and marked the completion of production with a project shipment ceremony.

Supporting Lithuania's Growing Battery Energy Storage Market

Lithuania's BESS market is entering a period of rapid scale-up. The country is accelerating grid-side storage deployment as part of its energy independence roadmap and its integration with the Continental European grid.

60 MW/120 MWh System for Jonava

UB Solar and AlphaESS are delivering a full-scope 60 MW/120 MWh BESS for the Jonava site. AlphaESS is responsible for the production and delivery of Aster 5000 battery containers. The project also incorporates a power conversion system (PCS) and a medium-voltage skid (MV Skid) supplied by Power Electronics (PE), as well as a power plant controller (PPC) with full grid code compliance delivered by UAB TSPI.

Jonava BESS: Supporting Grid Services and Energy Trading

The Jonava BESS will connect to the 110 kV grid and operate under the coordination of Litgrid, Lithuania's transmission system operator, qualifying it to participate in the country's balancing capacity and ancillary service markets.

The project will provide balancing services, non-frequency ancillary services, and flexibility services to Litgrid. It will also participate in energy arbitrage through the day-ahead and intraday markets on the Nord Pool power exchange.

With production complete and the system ready for shipment, the Jonava BESS is now moving into the next stage of project delivery in Lithuania.
